Clean photocopied forms
Reduce background distraction before recognition.
Prepare difficult scans with a cleanup profile suited to the page. Reduce distracting backgrounds, review shadows and speckles, or choose a black-and-white or colored-notes treatment before OCR.
Live preview of this page. Check faint text and colored marks; the final 150/200/300-DPI output may differ slightly.
Your result is ready. Download a copy, or return to adjust the settings.
Open Enhance Scanned PDF and upload the source. Inspect whether the main problem is a gray background, uneven shadows, edge marks or colored notes.
Start with Clean scan for ordinary paperwork. Adjust strength and cleanup, then add shadow, border or speckle treatment only when the source needs it.
Choose Start, download the result and compare it with the original. Change one type of cleanup at a time so its effect is clear.

Reduce background distraction before recognition.
Choose a treatment that respects highlighted or colored notes.
Review shadows and paper texture without assuming every small mark is noise.
Choose Clean scan, Black & white or Colored notes.
Clean scan targets an ordinary scanned document and exposes background cleanup controls. Black & white creates a more simplified tonal result, while Colored notes uses controls suited to retaining useful colored marks.
Choose according to the information in the source. A highlighted teaching sheet and a plain black-text form do not need the same treatment.
Use the cleanup controls only as far as the page needs.
Strength and cleanup affect the general result. Shadows, border cleanup and despeckle provide more focused adjustments for common scanning distractions.
Border cleanup can affect writing close to the edge, and despeckling can affect tiny meaningful marks. Compare initials, punctuation, decimal points and stamps before accepting a cleaner-looking page.
Use shared settings for consistent pages and individual settings for exceptions.
A packet may contain a clean original, a dark photocopy and a colored annotation sheet. Review the scope control before changing a profile or slider.
Navigate through the document after setting a shared treatment. If one page loses useful content, give it a less aggressive setting instead of compromising the entire packet.
Save a rendered PDF for a separate recognition or reading step.
The output-resolution choices are 150, 200 and 300 DPI. Higher resolution can retain more source detail, but cannot reconstruct letters that were blurred or absent in the scan.
Enhancement does not transcribe the document. Use PDF OCR next, and keep the original so that uncertain recognized words can still be checked.
Open one PDF up to 50 MB and 200 source pages. The full source must meet these limits even when you export a subset. Large or complex files can reach browser-memory or processing limits earlier.
The PDF preview is displayed in your browser. Starting the operation sends the document and selected settings to the server for processing. File handling is described in the Privacy Policy.
A few answers before you get started.
Server processingNo. It changes the page images. Run PDF OCR separately when you need editable or searchable text.
You can apply despeckle cleanup, but tiny dots can also be meaningful punctuation or writing. Review the result and use the lightest effective setting.
No. It can simplify a plain text scan, but may remove useful tone or color. Use a profile that matches the document and inspect highlights and handwriting.
The tool creates a separate result. Keep the original so you can compare important marks and return to less aggressive settings.
